In his latest book, Abdulkarim Al-Shatti explores the world's fascination with coffee, a drink surrounded by many legends, including the story of the Ethiopian shepherd Kaldi. The author questions this legend and argues that Arabs were the first to know and discover coffee.

Over five years, Abdulkarim travelled to Latin America, Mexico, Britain, Turkey, France, Ethiopia, Colombia, Yemen and southern Saudi Arabia to explore the history of coffee and its journey from the Arabian Peninsula to the rest of the world, where it underwent profound changes.

Al-Shatti draws on his many unusual experiences in books of travel writing and writing about objects, including Tasakku‘ ‘ala al-Kharita, Tasakku‘ fi Amrika al-Latiniyya and Sifr al-Qahwa.
